1076. THEODORE VAN KIRK Exceptional signed and annotated original drawing in pencil on an 11" x 8 1/2" white sheet, a sketch of the mushroom cloud of Hiroshima following the dropping of the bomb on that city on Aug. 6, 1945. Van Kirk labels the cloud "Mushroom Cloud - Estimated at 60,000 above target", adding an "X" at bottom which he labels "target - Aioa Bridge center of Hiroshima Japan", with a small black circle above the target labeled "'Little Boy' - 1st Atomic Bomb explodes 1908' above target". To the right of the mushroom cloud Van Kirk has drawn an image of an airplane which he labels "Enola Gay Altitude 31,060' Speed-258 Knots Heading about 60 deg". He labels the entire drawing "First Atomic Bomb Explodes over Hiroshima", and at left signs "Theodore J. Dutch Van Kirk Navigator - Enola Gay Hiroshima - 6 Aug. 1945". Fine condition, the first such drawing we've seen. $700 - 900
