Later ca. 1960's-70's United Klans of America robe and hood, both constructed of white satin-finish rayon, the robe featuring a nylon ‘Knights of Kamellia' patch on the left breast, with a Confederate battle flag patch on the right sleeve. The robe is closed at the front with velcro, instead of buttons as usually seen, and is secured with a white rayon belt. The cape is similarly attached to the collar with velcro. The hood The hood features a full face covering, is stiffened with a white plastic insert, and is fitted with a red nylon tassel at the peak. Neither piece bears any tags, labels or markings. The robe shows a small stain at front near the waist, otherwise both in very good to fine condition. The United Klans of America was the largest and most active Ku Klux Klan organization during the Civil Rights era, and was implicated in numerous crimes, including the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, the murder of civil rights activist Viola Liuzzo, and the lynching of Michael Donald. The group was sued out of existence by Donald's family and ceased operations in 1987.
