Lot of three Union soldiers' letters, each on great period letterhead, includes: A.L.S. with letterhead titled"The Soldier's Dream of Home", a red-tinted image of a soldier sleeping by a campfire and dreaming of reuniting with his wife and son, 4pp. 8vo.,"Camp at Petersburg", Dec. 21, [n.y.], from"J.T.B", likely John T. Baker, OH 123rd Infantry, to a friend. In part:"...We are now at a place called Petersburg the town is Small...and the citizens are strong Secesh...as for the Secesh army, we haven't seen much of it yet But day before yesterday we expected to have quite a Battle...We were drawn up in Batle line in a hurry...were ready for Siege every few moments...scouts would come riding in with the news that Old Imboden was within a few miles...But if he did have the most men, he thought it wasn't profitable to attack us I guess...Our Regt has a good many sick...hospital at a place called Cumberland...has 758 sick men in it some of which belong to the 123rd..." Very good, with transmittal envelope. WITH: A.L.S. on red-tinted letterhead, showing an open-winged eagle atop an American shield with the words"E PLURIBUS UNUM", 4pp. 12mo. , Convalescent Camp"Near Washville Tenn", Apr. 2, 1863, from Stephen B. Luce to William H. Williams. In part:"...Henry Petitt and Mr. Briggy have gone to Lenisville, KY, they are in Hospital...Briggy is quite sick...I hope I get my pay soon for I have but one dollar left..." Slight ink show-through on the second and third pages, else fine. WITH: A.L.S. with letterhead captioned"The Soldier's Parting", showing a full-color vignette of a woman embracing a Union soldier with the background showing a unit marching as ladies wave, 4pp. 8vo., Camp Kearney, Feb. 26 [n.y.], from Alson S. Warren to his sister Sarah, joking and writing in part:"...It seems by the looks of a part of your last letter that you took a good deal of pains to scratch out 2 names and did not make out very well...I read them both and shall see about it...Keep the stars and stripes in sight for they are not coming down yet..." Bears original mailing folds, else fine.
