Good lot of three items signed by notable U.S. Navy admirals of the Civil War, includes: DAVID D. PORTER (1813 - 1891) Union admiral who received the surrenders of Forts Jackson and St. Philip, and was indispensable in the siege and subsequent Union victory at Vicksburg. A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Washington, D.C., July[?] 12, 1870, transmitting his autograph as requested to a young correspondent. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows mounting remnants to the verso, else very good. A period frontispiece engraving of Porter featuring his facsimile signature. WITH: EDWARD T. NICHOLS (1823-1886) U.S. Navy rear admiral, commander of the USS WINONA during the bombardments of Forts St. Philip and Jackson on the approaches to New Orleans, receiving the surrender of the former. Also participated in the passing of the batteries at Vicksburg and engaged the CSS ARKANSAS during he run down the Mississippi. Signature "Ed. T. Nichols" in black ink on a 4 3/4" x 2 3/4" card, adding his rank "Rear Adl U.S.N." and the date Nov. 28, 1884. Shows slight soiling, else very good. WITH: CHRISTOPHER R.P. RODGERS (1819-1892) U.S. Navy Rear Admiral, commanded the ironclad USS NEW IRONSIDES at Charleston and later took part in the hunt for the raider CSS SHENANDOAH. A.L.S. "C.R.P. Rodgers", 1p. 8vo., Washington, D.C., Feb. 13, 1884, to attorney Ben W. Armstrong, complying with his correspondent's request for an autograph. He signs at the conclusion in black ink, adding his rank "Rear Admiral". Slightly ragged at the left edge, with mounting remnants to the verso, else very good. Three signed pieces.
