Good lot of four items signed by notable Union naval officers of the Civil War, includes: DAVID D. PORTER. (1813 - 1891) Union admiral who received the surrenders of Forts Jackson and St. Philip, and was indispensable in the siege and subsequent Union victory at Vicksburg. Signature in black ink on a 4 3/4" x 2 3/4" slip of paper, adding his rank "Admiral". Shows mounting remnants to the verso, else very good. WITH: JOHN A. DAHLGREN (1809 - 1870) Union rear admiral and inventor of the cannon which bore his name. He also commanded the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron. War-date signature "Jno A Dahlgren" on a 5" x 2 1/2" slip of paper cur from a document, adding his rank "R. Admiral", his position "Comm. So. At. Bl. Squadron", and the date 'Jan. 30, 1864" above. Shows mounting remnants to the verso, else very good. WITH: DONALD M. FAIRFAX (1818-1894) U.S. Navy officer who personally took custody of Confederate commissioners to England James M. Mason and John Slidell aboard a British mail steamer during the "Trent Affair". A.N.S. "D.M. Fairfax", 1p. 8vo., Hagerstown, Oct. 10, 1891, transmitting his autograph as per his correspondent's request. He signs at the conclusion in black ink, adding his postwar rank "Rear Admiral U.S. Navy". Shows mailing folds with minor splits thereto, with mounting remnants and a biographical inscription in pencil on the verso, else very good. WITH: JOHN C. WATSON (1842-1923) U.S. Navy admiral who served as flag lieutenant to Admiral David Farragut at the Battle of Mobile Bay. A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Frankfort, Nov. 10, 1869, to attorney John M. Harlan, accepting an invitation to attend a military reunion dinner. He signs at the conclusion in black ink, adding his contemporary rank "Lieut. Comdr. U.S. Navy". Shows folds, else very good. Four pieces.
