Good lot of six letters, documents and cut signatures, all signed by the Civil War-era governors of Union States. Includes: ISRAEL WASHBURN, JR. (1813-1883) of Maine. Printed D.S., 1p. 4to., Augusta, July 25, 1862, an order issued by the state Adjutant General authorizing a Horace W. Metcalf of Damariscotta to summon all soldiers in Lincoln County to immediately report for duty at Augusta, except those on unexpired furlough. Washburn signs at the conclusion, adding the note "Please attend to this with all due dispatch". JOEL PARKER (1816-1888) of New Jersey. A.L.S. signed twice, 1p. 8vo., Freehold, July 20, 1887, with transmittal envelope; WILLIAM SPRAGUE (1830-1915) of Rhode Island. A.L.S. "Wm. Sprague" on official letterhead, 1p. 4to., Providence, Oct. 4, 1861; WILLIAM SPRAGUE, cut signature affixed to a period facsimile of a decree, 1p. 4to., Providence, April 7, 1862; FREDERICK HOLBROOK (1813-1909) of Vermont. Signature in black ink cut from a letter, 4" x 1 1/4", affixed to a card; and REUBEN E. FENTON (1819-1885) of New York. Signature in black ink on a 4 1/2" x 2 1/2" card with pencil identifying inscription. All are very good. Six pieces.
