Good lot of six items signed by notable Union generals and other officers, includes: JOHN BEATTY (1828 - 1914) Union brigadier general who fought at Stones River and had two horses killed under him at Murfreesboro. Signature ‘Jno Beatty' on a 2.5 in. x 1 in. slip of paper, adding his rank ‘Brig Genl'. Shows ab adhesive stain affecting the beginning of the signature, with archival tape residue to the verso, otherwise in very good condition. WITH: GEORGE A. MCCALL (1802 – 1868) Union brigadier general, also served in the Second Seminole War as aide-de-camp to Gen. Edmund P. Gaines and the Mexican-American War under Zachary Taylor. McCall found himself imprisoned at the infamous Libby Prison after being wounded and captured during the Battle of Frayser's Farm, but was eventually released in exchange for Confederate Major General Simon Bolivar Buckner; War-date signature ‘Geo. A. McCall' on an 11.5 in. x 1.75 in. strip of paper cut from the conclusion of a document, adding the initials ‘B. G.' for his rank, with another hand adding the station ‘Near Alexandria, Va' and the date March 31, 1862. the signature is affected by three vertical splits, two mended with archival tape on the verso, with additional archival tape residue and a mounting strip at the left edge, just good condition overall. WITH: JOHN T. AVERILL (1825-1889) Union brevet brigadier general, later U.S. congressman from Minnesota. Franking signature ‘Jno T. Averill' on a 3.75 in. x 1.5 in. slip of paper roughly cut from an envelope, with a partial St. Paul postmark. In very good condition. WITH: CHARLES J. BIDDLE (1819-1873) Union Army colonel commanding the 1st Pennsylvania Rifles, offered a commission as brigadier general but declined it before resigning in 1862. Signature ‘Chs. J. Biddle' in black ink on a 3.5 in. x 1.25 in. slip of paper cut from the conclusion of a letter, adding his rank ‘Col. Rifles Penna. Vols. Commanding 1st Brigade'. Shows faint stains, with archival tape residue to the verso, otherwise in very good condition. WITH: JEREMIAH M. RUSK (1830-1893) Colonel of Wisconsin volunteers and brevetted brigadier general at war's end. Later a Wisconsin congressman and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. Bold signature ‘J. M. Rusk' in black ink on a 3.25 x 1.75 in. card, adding ‘Wisc[onsin]'. In fine condition, this piece WITH: the original transmittal envelope. Six pieces.
