Good lot of five items signed by notable Union generals, includes: HENRY W. BENHAM (1813 – 1884) Union brigadier general of engineers, commanded a brigade at New Creek. He disobeyed orders and was subject to a court martial after the battle of James Island on June 16, 1862, at which he was in immediate command under Major General David Hunter. Bold signature ‘H M Benham' in black ink on a 5 x 2 in. slip of paper, adding his rank ‘Br Genl' and ‘Comg Engr Brigade'. Mounted, faintly toned, otherwise in very good condition. WITH: EDWARD S. BRAGG (1827 - 1912) Union brigadier general and a commander of the Iron Brigade, engaged at Fredericksburg, Antietam and Chancellorsville, in the Overland Campaign and in the Siege of Petersburg. Bold signature ‘Edw. S. Bragg' on a 6 x 3.5 in. slip of paper, adding ‘Wisconsin'. With archival tape residue on the verso, otherwise in fine condition. WITH: BENJAMIN F. LOAN (1819 – 1881) U.S. Representative from Missouri, as well as brigadier general in the Federal Missouri State Militia in service to the Union during the Civil War. Bold signature ‘Benj F Loan' in black ink on a 5 x 2.25 in. slip of paper, adding ‘St. Joseph Mo.' Some adhesive residue to the verso, otherwise in fine condition. WITH: JOHN MCNEIL (1813-1891) Union brigadier general, notorious for his role in the massacre of Confederate POW's at Palmyra, relieved of command after the Battle of Westport for his failure to attack the enemy. Close-cut signature in black ink on a 3.25 x 0.75 in. slip of paper, with his rank added below in another hand. Mounted, with the top of the ‘J' in his signature cut off, o0therwise in very good condition. WITH: THOMAS H. RUGER (1833-1907) Union Brigadier General who led a regiment in the battles of the Shenandoah, Antietam and at Gettysburg.  Signature ‘Thos. H. Ruger' in black ink on an irregular 4 x 1.5 in. slip of paper, adding his rank and command ‘Brig. Gen. U. S. Volunteers Comdg 8 Brigade 1st Division 12th Army Corps'. Mounted, shows a couple of small stains, otherwise in very good condition. Five pieces.
