Fine lot of three items signed by notable Union generals, includes: GEORGE W. CULLUM (1809-1892), brigadier general who served as Halleck's Chief of Staff and Chief Engineer. War-date A.L.S., 1p. 4to., Washington, D.C., Feb. 19, 1863, to Rhode Island senator Henry B. Anthony, transmitting a copy of a bill that would organize the Army Corps of Engineers (not present). He signs ‘Geo. W. Cullum' at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original mailing folds, slight brushing, some ink burn near the bottom and archival tape mounting remnants to the verso, else very good. WITH: THOMAS H. NEILL (1826–1885), Union brigadier general who served in the Army of the Potomac and led forces at Fredericksburg and Gettysburg. A.N.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., Winchester, VA, May 15, 1865, a handwritten draft of a telegram message to a John Neill M.D., presumably a relative, ordering him to Washington to inspect troops of the First Corps. He signs ‘T. H. Neill' at the conclusion in pencil. Shows folds, trimmed at the top and with a mounting strip thereto on the verso, else very good. WITH: THOMAS G. PITCHER (1824–1895), Career soldier of the American Army who served in the Mexican-American War and the Civil War. By the end of the Civil War he held the rank of brigadier general in the Union Army, later serving as superintendent of the United States Military Academy. Partly-printed D.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., Washington, D.C., Aug. 17, 1874, a check drawn on the National Metropolitan Bank, paying $200 to ‘Proceeds', presumably a cash withdrawal. He signs ‘T G Pitcher' at bottom left. Shows some small tears to the edges, with one near center, and with archival tape mounting remnants to the verso, else very good. Three pieces.
