417. UNION CIVIL WAR PLAYING CARDS A rare war-date complete set of "American Card Company" playing cards in their original cardboard box that bears a finely engraved portrait of Lady Liberty. The suits are represented by flags, stars shields, and colored face cards depicting generals and Lady Liberty. Published for the American Card Company by Benjamin W. Hitchcock, New York City, 1862. A two-cent revenue stamp is attached to the lower portion of the box, indicating that the cards were sold and tax paid for in October, 1863. Some wear while the upper portion of the carton is missing one side panel. Overall very good condition. $600-800
