Good lot of ten items signed by Union brevet generals of the Civil War, includes: JOHN A. CAMPBELL (1835-1880), good content A.N.S, 1p. 8vo., Raleigh, May 13, 1865, to the editor of the Raleigh "Progress", in part: "Jefferson Davis has been captured... and is now en route... to Washington City [Georgia]..." Campbell signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows paper loss with a period repair to the top left corner, the left edge slightly ragged, else very good. WITH: HENRY F. CLARKE (18220-1887), A.D.S., 1p. 8vo, "Head Q's Army of the Potomac", July 22, 1863, permitting Army commissaries to sell store to Sanitary Commission agents. He signs at the conclusion in black ink, adding his rank below. Ragged at the left edge, else very good. WITH: FREDERICK THOMAS LOCKE (1826-1893), A.E.S. on a 3 1/4" x 1 1/2" slip of paper cut from a document, [n.p.], April 3, 1863, forwarding the document to the Chief Commissary of the Army of the Potomac, by command of Gen. George C. Meade. Very good. WITH: MARSHAL I. LUDINGTON (1839-1919), partly-printed D.S., 1p. oblong 4to., Warrenton Junction, Nov. 15, 1863, a "List of Quartermaster's Stores" received by Ludington, including large quantities of oats and grain. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows a crease and staple hole at the top left corner, with slight toning to the edges, else very good. WITH: FREDERICK D. CALLENDER (1816-1882), pre-war A.L.S., 1p. 4to., Fort Brooke, March 22, 1842, to a Lt. Patrick, transmitting a group of receipts and invoices. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. A typed biographical sketch has been affixed to the page, shows mounting remnants to the verso, else very good. WITH: HORACE CAPRON (1804-1885),. A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Washington, D.C., March 2, 1871, to attorney E.D. Hicks, providing his correspondent with an update on a package. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. The second blank leaf has been trimmed, else very good. WITH: BENJAMIN C. CARD (1825-1916), A.E.S. on the verso of a partly-printed D.S., 1p. 4to., Washington, D.C., Nov. 9, 1864, a monthly property return endorsed as received by Card in black ink. Shows original folds and slight toning to the edges, else very good. WITH: CHRISTIAN T. CHRISTENSEN (1832-1905), A.D.S., 1p. 4to., New York, Aug. 12, 1863, a "true copy" of an order granting a leave of absence to a lieutenant of the 1st Massachusetts Volunteers. He signs at bottom left in red ink. Shows mild toning to the edges, else very good. WITH: JONATHAN P. CILLEY (1835-1920), signature in black ink on a 2 1/4" x 3 3/4" card, adding "1st Maine Cavalry Bvt. Brig, Gen."Shows slight toning, else very good. WITH: WILLIAM H. CLARK (1836-1872), manuscript D.S., 1p. 4to., Brownsville, Dec. 20, 1863, a set of orders appointing three officers to a board of inquiry, investigating extended leaves of absence taken by three other officers. He signs at the conclusion in black ink, adding his rank "Capt." Bears an identifying inscription obscured with correction fluid, with original mailing folds showing a small split and chips to the left edge, else very good. Ten pieces.
