BEADLE (1838-1915), good content A.L.S., 3pp. 4to., Washington, D.C., Nov. 4, 1864, a lengthy entreaty for the officers under his command to improve the discipline of their men, following reports of "...drunkenness and neglect of duty..." He signs at the conclusion in black ink, adding his rank. Shows original mailing folds, else very good. WITH: RICHARD N. BATCHELDER (1832-1901), brevet brig. gen. and recipient of the Medal of Honor for gallantry against Mosby's guerrillas. Partly-printed D.S., 1p. oblong 4to., Warrenton Junction, July 27, 1863, a list of quartermasters stores received by Batchelder, consisting solely of 8,400 pounds of oats. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows a staple hole at the top left corner, else very good. WITH: SIMON F. BARSTOW (1817-1882), A.E.S. on the verso of an A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Wayneburg, July 28, 1864, from a James Lindsey to Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton, requesting that a soldier under his command be given furlough to return home to settle his deceased father's estate. Barstow forwards the letter to Brig. Gen. David M. Gregg, by command of Maj. Gen. George C. Meade. Shows original folds and slight soiling, else very good. WITH: JOHN W. BARRIGER (1832-1906), partly-printed D.S., 1p. 4to., Washington, D.C., June 4, 1878, a "true copy" of an account abstract related to a delivery of coffee and sugar that was withheld from its intended recipients. Barriger signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original folds and staple holes at top center, else very good. WITH: THEODORE H. BARRETT (1834-1900), manuscript L.S., 2pp. 8vo., "Fort Arbuckle" (in modern Oklahoma), March 12, 1872, to "Messrs. W. & L.E. Gurley", enclosing a check for goods received. He signs in black ink at the conclusion. Shows folds and some toning to the bottom edge, else very good. WITH: JAMES BARNETT (1821-1911), A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Cleveland, Jan. 27, 1905, to an E.T. Osborn, transmitting his regrets that he cannot attend an upcoming board meeting. He signs boldly at the conclusion in black ink. Shows pin holes at top left, else very good. WITH: ALBERT M. BARNEY (1837-1886), A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Gouverneur, N.Y., Oct. 17, 1866, to Col. S.S. Doty, Chief of the New York Bureau of Military Statistics, transmitting a copy of his "military history". He signs at the conclusion in black ink. With a biographical inscription affixed to the verso, else very good. WITH: GEORGE W. BALLOCH (1825-1907), E.S. in black ink, [n.p.], Dec, 19, 1864, on the verso of an inventory and inspection report condemning and disposing of a table and several packing boxes. Shows original folds, else very good. WITH: JAMES H. BAKER (1829-1913), franking signature as U.S. Commissioner of Pensions in black ink on a 9" x 4" postal cover. Opened neatly at one end, shows a few spots of soiling, else very good. WITH: ADAM BADEAU (1831-1895), A.L.S., 3pp. 8vo., New York, Oct. 22, 1885, to attorney John C. Roper, declining an invitation to deliver a lecture on Gen. Ulysses S. Grant before the Military Historical Society of Massachusetts. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. A printed biographical extract has been affixed to the final page, else very good.Ten pieces.
