Description:

Good pair of U.S. Navy Mark 91, Mod. 1 binoculars, approx. 10" x 9" x 5 3/4", manufactured by Bausch & Lomb to resist water and pressure, and most commonly found aboard the navy's fleet submarines. They were mounted permanently above the Target Bearing Transmitter (TBT), which would transmit the direction and bearing indicated by the binoculars to the boat's fire control computer. The binoculars are marked at the top of each barrel with the numerical designations "415492-[blank square]-1" and "415493-[blank square]-1". No maker's plaque is present. They are finished with black marine paint overall and fitted with a rubber hood protecting the eyepieces, with a double set of hinged caps protecting the objective lenses. One of these caps retains a darkened glass sun filter, absent from its mate. A cable connector, presumably allowing communication with the TBT, is fitted to the left-hand side. They have been mounted to a non-original hinged and threaded stand mount by a previous owner for display purposes. The paint is flaking in numerous areas, with some slight mummification to the rubber eyepiece, and some cobwebs and a very small amount of dust visible in the optics, else very good.
