JOHN TYLER Scarce D.S. as President, 1p. folio parchment, Washington, Dec. 14, 1843, a scallop-top ship's passport issued to the "Ship Congress", a large vessel of 339 tons with a crew of 28 men. A vandal at one time removed the signature of Secretary of State John C. Calhoun: the vacant area has been replaced with a section of similarly-colored parchment. Bottom loop of "y" in signature also clipped, else boldly signed and very good. $300-400
