TWO WEHRPASSES ISSUED TO IDENTICAL TWINS, BOTH KILLED IN ACTION
Pair of wehrpasses issued to brothers Hugo and Konrad Bill, both born on May 27, 1922 in Friedbeg, and both being issued their respective wehrpass on Nov. 29, 1940. Gefreiter Hugo Bill qualified as a rifleman, and machine gunner, served in the RAD and with the Luftwaffe in Home Defense, and served in several infantry units in Russia. He was killed in action on Feb. 5, 1943 while serving with 9./Gren. Regt./529. Obergefreiter Konrad Bill served with several machine gun companies until 1942, then with tank support troops including 6//Panzer Gren. Regt./113 in Russia where he is wounded by rifle fire. He moved to the Normandy invasion front on D-Day, June 6, 1944 as noted on p. 30: "ab. 6.6.44 Invasion". Artillery shrapnel takes his life on Aug. 4, 1944, destroying his upper-right thigh. he is awarded the War Merit Cross, 2nd Class two months later.
