Description:

TOMBSTONE'S CITY ATTORNEY WHO WROTE THE "NO FIREARMS LAW"
MARCUS P. HAYNE Tombstone City Attorney who drafted the infamous "no firearms" Ordinance No. 9 which was intended to create a peaceful environment in the city. It was this law which Virgil Earp was enforcing on Oct. 26 when he pistol-whipped and disarmed Ike Clanton, and it was the same law under which, hours later, Virgil, Wyatt, and Morgan Earp, with Doc Holliday, confronted the Clantons and McLaurys on Fremont Street in a gun battle that would make history. Very rare A.D.S. signed twice, 1p. 8vo., Tombstone, Apr. 19, 1881 (the very day Ordinance No. 9 took effect!), in which Haynes acknowledges receipt of his $300.00 wages as City Attorney for the previous three months. Small split at top, damp stain at lower-left, else very good.
