Description:

TINTYPE OF UNION TEAMSTERS WITH SOLDIER KIA AT RESACA
Interesting 1/4 plate tintype showing a covered wagon being pulled by a mule, upon which a man described in a accompanying letter was killed at the battle of Resaca. Also shows a second man with a horse - perhaps clothed in a sack coat - and a soldier at far left holding a large dog by the collar. This unusual photograph is accompanied by an A.L.S. signed simply "Ma", 1p. 8vo., Chattanooga, July 1, 1917, addressed to George Kapp in Cincinnati. It reads, in part: "...I am sending you a picture, it used to be in a handsome case...at the time I got it I was living on Race and Elder...the one that is driving the team was killed at Resaca in '64'. I was disappointed in the picture, the package looked so big and the picture was so small. Photography was not so perfect in those days, they could only take four 'mules' but it is interesting to have as a remembrance of the Civil War...". With original envelope. Housed in the bottom of the original but damaged case, no lid present. Image a bit dark, else very good.
