Description:

TINTYPE OF UNION CORPORAL WHO HAS BEEN SHOT IN THE FACE...AND RETURNS TO DUTY!
A very rare 1/9 plate tintype head and shoulders portrait of a Union Corporal who has survived a horrendous gunshot wound to the head. The wound entered the unfortunate soldier's head just below his left eye, causing it to sag. While the vast majority of images showing injured soldiers were taken while in hospital for medial purposes, this young trooper obviously survived his ordeal and returned to duty to have his image taken in uniform. Lightly tinted, in original gutta-percha case with cover detached, very good.
