TIMOTHY PICKERING
(1745 - 1829) American politician and Adjutant General of the Continental Army, Secretary of War (1795) and Secretary of State (1795-1800). A.D.S. signed twice in text,, 1p. legal folio, [n.p.] c. Dec. 30, 1783 certifying accounts made as Quartermaster of the Continental Army and Samuel Wood in December 1783 including "...Damages done in 1781...To 2,352 Rails... as pr Account of Joseph Belknap & Jno. J. Skidmore..." At the bottom he certifies "...that Timothy Pickering late QMG appointed the above mentioned D. Niven on behalf of the United States, & approved of the awarded delivered him signed & Stated by Daniel Niven & Leonard Nicoll, Also that said Quarter Master General appointed John J. Skidmore late Deputy Wagon master to view the farm of Saml. Wood and Render him an Account of the Rails distroyed

[sic] by the American Army..." Usual folds, else fine condition.
