THOMAS W. BALL
(1819-1911) American sculptor of monuments, known for his statues of Charles Sumner, Daniel Webster, George Washington, and more. A superb item, an oversize photograph of one his most famous works, an equestrian sculpture of George Washington that is now in the Boston Public Garden. The sepia photo measures 11 1/2" x 13 1/2", and is mounted to the original mat measuring 18 1/2" x 22". Inscribed by Ball at the lower right corner of the mat: "Brother George with love and regards of T. Ball". Date of May 1864 penned in another hand beneath image. Mat bears light staining, foxing and wear, but overall very good condition. A wonderful piece for display.
