THOMAS JORDAN
(1821-1895) Pennsylvania native who fought with the 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry. Battled with Nathaniel Bedford Forrest at Shelbyville, fought at Chickamauga, and participated in Sherman's campaign, for which he was brevetted a brigadier general in February, 1865. War-date A.L.S., 1p., 12mo., Lexington [North Carolina], June 5, 1865, shortly after the Trans-Mississippi surrender: "Headquarters 1st Brigade Cavalry... Though my name can do little to illustrate the devotion of patriotic men to their country, when our land is full of patriots, yet I cheerfully furnish it..." Boldly signed, "Thomas J. Jordan, Br Brig Genl". Minor foxing, else very good.
