Description:

THEODORE ROOSEVELT
(1858 - 1919) Twenty-sixth President of the United States who started the Panama Canal, settled the Russo-Japanese War, broke up Standard Oil and encouraged conservation. Superb Harris & Ewing I.S.P., 9 3/4" x 13 1/2" b/w, a wonderful view of the ex-president half-length and seated, his left hand fiercely clenching his jacket, and alternatively his right hand is resting upon his knee, relaxed and open, in a picture describing Roosevelt's personal and political philosophy. Boldly inscribed at bottom: "Inscribed for Thurston Ballard with the high regard of Theodore Roosevelt Feb. 6th 1915". Fine condition. Ballard was the owner of a Kentucky flour-milling firm and no doubt a favorite of Roosevelt: he introduced profit sharing to his employees and urged them to carefully invest those proceeds.
