Description:

THEODORE ROOSEVELT'S NATURAL RESOURCES CONFERENCE
Rare photograph of a landmark American event, 7" x 9 1/2", b/w, the gathering of American governors, industrialists, scientists, judges, and other politicians at the behest of President Theodore Roosevelt in 1908 to discuss the stewardship of America's natural resources. The photograph depicts several dozen men grouped around the President, including Andrew Carnegie, William Jennings Bryan, and Gifford Pinchot. Roosevelt held the conference on May 13-15, 1908 in Washington D.C., in order to discuss the conservation of America's natural resources-- which were previously thought to be virtually inexhaustible. Roosevelt began the conference with a speech, "Natural Resources-- Their Wise Use or Their Waste" and saw it end with remarkable progress made in conservation policy. Presented with a gold border and framed in wood, this fine piece of environmental history bears a 1908 copyright stamp and makes a fine addition for any conservationist or Roosevelt collector.
