The Tragic Widow A fascinating lot of material about thirty pieces all relating to the trial and imprisonment of Marguerite Steinheil accused murderer and mistress of French President Felix Faure (1841- 1899 On May 31 1908 a servant discovered the bodies of Steinheil strangled husband and mother and Marguerite Steinheil tied to her bed Steinheil was accused of the murders with the assertion that the crime was committed to allow her freer access to Faure. The scandal called the "impasse Ronsin", dragged on through her imprisonment, trial and acquittal This fine lot includes material Steinheil used to publish her memoirs including a hand drawn schematic of the murder scene with body locations photographs of Steinheil and the victims, photos of the murder scene correspondence from Faure and Jules Massenet copies and a signed cabinet photo of Faure as well Much annotated in her hand, with a few pieces signed An exceptional lot highlighting one of the greatest scandals in French politics
