Description:

THE TOMBSTONE EPITAPH
A rare edition of The Tombstone Epitaph for Monday, Oct. 4, 1880. Published only a year after the town's founding in 1879 and this, only the 23rd edition published since the newspaper's founding earlier that year. The first page features news from New York, Chicago, Mexico and elsewhere and includes numerous advertisements for local goods and services. The paper also includes news closer to home including the a report on the release of an accused murderer in Tombstone: "Bradshaw has been turned loose, and we learned Wednesday that King, who killed a man at the Headquarters Saloon a few weeks since, had also been released. The coming election is said to have been a strong factor in the release of both these parties, as they are men supposed to have considerable political influence. We don't know whether the charge be true or false, but if true the county officers engaged in it had better withdraw from the ticket they are in, for if they don't they will be buried fathoms deep under the ballots of an outraged populace. Tampering with justice is not a good thing, as the parties engaged will discover about election day...". More good content. Sheets detached, toned at margins with minor chips and tears, professionally de-acidified, very good.
