Description:

(TEXAS GUNSLINGERS) JOHN KING FISHER
JOHN KING FISHER (1853-1884) Texas outlaw, cattle rancher and rustler, horse thief, and later in life, a deputy sheriff following pressure from Texas Ranger Leander McNelly. While in San Antonio, Texas, on business, Fisher came into contact with his old friend, gunfighter and gambler Ben Thompson. Both were killed in a gunfight with a local theater owner. Rare A.D.S. 'J. K. Fisher Dep'y' as assistant deputy penned on the verso of an Oct. 9, 1883 Uvalde Co., Texas summons ordering the arrest of 'H. N. Dimmick[?]' on a charge of having stolen $1,069.00. On the verso, Fisher attests that on Nov. 29, 1883 he executed the warrant: '...arresting the within named defendant...and taking his appearance bond to appear before the Hon. District Court...' Boldly penned and signed, only some light toning and soiling to verso.
