Description:

(TEXAS) EZEKIEL WILLIAMS AND OTHER TEXAS PATRIOTS
EZEKIEL WILLIAMS (unknown–1844) Texas Revolution patriot, one of the Old Eighteen who refused to surrender the Gonzales 'Come and Take It' cannon back to the Mexicans. The ensuing battle occurred on Williams's land and precipitated the Texas Revolution. Williams was appointed a captain in the Texas Revolutionary Army at the Consultation at San Felipe in November 1835. After the formation of the Republic of Texas, Williams and other important men from Gonzales unanimously voted for Sam Houston for president. A.D.S. as County Clerk penned at the conclusion of a land sale deed between William Morrison and Alsey[?] Miller, 2pp. legal folio, Gonzales, Oct. 11, 1841. At conclusion, Williams pens eight lines attesting the identities of those signing, incorporating his signature in the text and signing a second time at conclusion. The document is witnessed by two other Texas Revolution notables: JOHN GLADDEN KING (1790-1856), a Texas soldier, settler and rancher who participated in the Gutierrez-Magee Expedition. King's son took his father's place at the Alamo, and was the youngest to be killed there. King Co., Texas is named in his honor, and by ARTHUR SWIFT (1812-1855), Texas Ranger, legislator and founder of Seguin, and fought at Salado Creek. Fine condition.
