412. SUTLERS DOCUMENT A rare war-date manuscript Sutler's D.S., 4pp. legal folio, entitled "List of prices of Sutler's goods determined by the Brigade Board of the Third Brigade.", [most likely near Fredericksburg, Va., late Fall] 1862. Enumerated are over eighty creature comfort essentials sold by the Sutler to the Union soldier including nearly fifty items that are priced. Listed in small part are items, such as: dried apples 12 cents per pound, dried cod fish 10 cents per pound, one gallon tin coffee pot 75 cents, eggs 25 cents per dozen, pencils 5 cents each, pickles 50 cent per quart bottle, sardines 40 cents per 1/4 box, 1 lbs. canned vegetables 50 cents and envelopes one cent each or 15 cents for a pack of 25. Approved and secretarially signed by Union Generals John W. Geary and George S. Greene. Minor toning, else very good. $600-700
