King, Chambersburg, Pa., August 5, 1863 to Camp Letterman Director Henry Janes concerning the suspension of contract surgeons while returning to the Army of the Potomac any of her detached surgeons. In part: "...The contract of Dr. Wynkoop is hereby annulled at his own request to take effect Aug. 5, 1863...his connection with the Gettysburg Camp Hospital will therefore cease...I will write to Dr. Wilson and staff to send no more contract physicians to you. Relieve all the regimental medical officers...not...indispensable for the proper and skillful treatment of your wounded...have you removed all the sick to camp?...What is the estimate made of the number killed in battle?...".
