Description:

STEPHEN DECATUR(1779 - 1820) American naval officer whose warship United States defeated the British Macedonian in the War of 1812, later he led a squadron to Algeria to force a peace on American terms. Decatur is also well remembered for his toast: " . . . our country right or wrong!". Rare closing portion and signature cut from a letter, in full: "with assurances of the highest consider[ation] I have the honor to be most respectfully - Sir your obdt st. Stephen Decatur". Very good.
