Description:

STEAM PUMP RANCH
HENRY CLAY HOOKER Arizona cattle baron, owner of the Sierra Bonita Ranch, southwest of Fort Grant, with over 620 sq. mi. of valley and mountain range. The ranch was also a stop for Wyatt Earp as he headed for Colorado in 1882. Partly-printed D.S. 2pp. sm. folio, Pima Co., AZ, Feb. 16, 1878, a Quit Claim Deed in which Hooker sells 34 acres of land adjacent to the famous Steam Pump Ranch to its owners George Pusch and John Zellweger. Tape repairs at folds, very good. The ranch derived its name from a steam pump installed to bring its plentiful waters to the surface. The ranch became known as a cattle watering spot and a popular stop for stage lines and military patrols, and soon the pair owned an ice plant, a slaughter house and a meat market.
