HENRY M. STANLEY (1841-1904) British journalist and explorer who discovered Dr. Livingstone at Ujiji. Fine content A.L.S. "Henry M. Stanley" 1p. 8vo., London, Apr. 8, 1885, to Mr. Levison, in part: "...I expect to go away and it is only my Mapmaker who has delayed me so long. I am burning to go somewhere to breathe fresh air and have undisturbed quiet...". At the time of this letter, Stanley was involved in the Congo Congress in Berlin, and was preparing an expedition which finally commenced in 1885. Interestingly, Stanley records in his journals that he attributes several problems he had in locating his objectives to the hastiness of his mapmaker in preparing geographical details of the newly-discovered areas in the Congo. Boldly penned, a couple of small spots, otherwise very good. $800-1,000
