Description:

HANS LAMMERS (1879 - 1962) Minister and Chief of the Reich Chancellery, ordered arrested by Hitler in the final days, and ultimately sentenced to twenty years imprisonment for war crimes. A very fine personal relic of Lammers, his ankle-length uniform overcoat as an honorary "Obergruppenfuhrer" ("lieutenant-general") of the SS, crafted from black wool with grey lapels. The double-breasted overcoat is closed with two rows of pebbled metal buttons at front, with two additional such buttons securing the band at the rear of the waist. A flap-covered slash pocket is present at each hip. The collar is constructed of black velvet trimmed with braided silver bullion piping, displaying the black velvet and silver bullion rank tabs of an SS-"Obergruppenfuhrer" at each lapel. The right-hand shoulder bears a sewn-in shoulder strap of braided silver bullion, secured with another pebbled metal button. The right-hand sleeve bears a brocade Honor Chevron of the Old Guard, while the left sleeve displays a red wool NSDAP armband trimmed with black ribbon, featuring a black fabric embroidered SS-RZM tag on the interior. The left hand cuff also displays a silver brocade band. The interior is trimmed with fine, dark blue-green silk, with a horizontal slash pocket within the left-hand breast and a dagger hanging strap with a metal clip beneath the left-hand sleeve. A plastic protector on the right-hand side of the interior just below the button holes contains a small paper slip bearing the owner's name "H. Lammers" in black ink. A label or hanging loop appears to have been removed from the interior of the collar, and the wool lapel shows a minute moth nip, else in fine condition. A period German press photo showing Lammers wearing this overcoat during a parade is also present. From the collection of the late internationally-known Third Reich scholar Bob Coleman.
