Description:

SS OFFICER'S DEGEN
A near faultless German SS Officer's private purchase degen by E. u. F. Horster, one of the nicest such examples we've seen. Chrome-plated metal pommel, without SS runes, as is proper for a private purchase sword, with plated metal guard and black painted wood grip. The wood is mint, with no chips, fading or other defects, and the wire wrap is tight and bright. The pommel nut has a ridged edge and is likewise untouched, the guard is generally bright but showing some light oxidation on the outside edge. Oak leaves adorn the bottom of the grip, one of which has traces of rust. Straight blade signed by maker Horster, with SS acceptance stamps on the underside of the guard and the top of the throat of the scabbard. Blade is excellent with virtually no pitting or corrosion evident but for a tiny spot on the front near the ricasso and again at the tip, both almost indiscernible. The original blade buffer in white leather remains in place in and an excellent state of preservation. Scabbard is black painted steel, undented and complete with all screws, the original paint virtually untouched and 'unimproved', scabbard is finished with silver finish fittings in Nordic knot designs. Sword with grip is 34.5 in long, blade is 29 in. long. A fine example from a desirable maker.
