SOVIET AIRCRAFT DESIGNERS
Good pair of signed documents, each executed by prominent aircraft designers of the Soviet Union, and whose names who become synonymous with the military aircraft they engineered and produced, includes. ANDREI TUPOLEV (1888-1972), head of the aeronautical design bureau which bears his name and designer of over 100 aircraft, including the Tu-95 "Bear" turboprop strategic bomber. Manuscript D.S. in Cyrillic, 1p. 7 1/4" x 7 3/4", Moscow, Oct. 1, 1937, a telegraph form completed by an unknown hand in violet ink and signed boldly at the conclusion by Tupolev in red indelible pencil. The document, addressed to a Soviet trade representative in London, untranslated but apparently discussing the purchase of aircraft components. Shows file holes at the top and left margins, else very good. WITH: ALEXANDER YAKOVLEV (1906-1989), head of the aeronautical design bureau which bears his name and numerous Soviet combat aircraft of World War II, as well as the Yak-28, the Soviet Union's first supersonic bomber. Manuscript D.S. in Cyrillic, 1p. 4to., Moscow, May 24, 1941, a telegraph form completed by an unknown hand in violet ink and signed boldly at the conclusion by Yakovlev in blue ink. The document, addressed to a Soviet trade representative in Berlin, is untranslated but apparently addresses the purchase of an aircraft from the then-friendly Third Reich, which would invade Soviet territory less than a month later. Shows folds with file holes at the top edge and perforations at the bottom, else very good. Two pieces.
