SIMON CAMERON
(1799 - 1889) Secretary of War in Lincoln's cabinet, often involved in scandal concerning army contracts. A group of three items, the first an A.D.S. 1p. oblong 8vo., Middleton, July 26, 1849, a receipt noting monies owed by Joseph C. Potts, treasurer of the Trenton Improvement Co. $833.00 payable to Cameron. Signed at bottom as clerk and again within text. With a manuscript A.D.S. 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], Nov. 15, 1849, a contract between Cameron and a company for shares of stock, signed at conclusion and again within text; and an A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., Harrisburg, May 5, 1867, writing to a gentleman sending a referral. Three pieces, very good condition.
