Description:

SILVER STAR & PURPLE HEART AWARDED TO A BLACK SOLDIER K.I.A. IN KOREA
A rare pairing of awards given unto Cpl. ZEPHRY BRIM, HQ Battery, 96th Field Artillery Battery, killed in action at Yonghung, Korea on Nov. 7, 1950. Both medals are named to Brim and are accompanied by matching chest ribbons and lapel pins, in their original presentation cases. The recommendation for the Brim's Silver Star (copy included) notes he is a 'Negro' and that his captain was the 'only living witness' to his bravery. General Order 267, issued in Busan, May 4, 1951 (original printed copy included) quotes the citation for Brim's Silver Star: '...At 0200 hours on 7 November 1950, when a numerically superior hostile force attacked his battery, Corporal BRIM remained in an exposed position and delivered devastating rifle fire on the enemy throughout the hours of darkness. At daylight, he went to the battery command post where he obtained a supply of ammunition, then returned to his position and again placed accurate fire on the enemy, routing them from the area. As he was pursuing several fleeing enemy soldiers across open terrain, he was killed. The gallant and intrepid actions of Corporal BRIM were instrumental in repelling the enemy attack and reflected great credit on himself and the military service...' A superlative grouping.
