Description:

SILVER SS SPOON FROM HEINRICH HIMMLER'S HOME
A fine relic from the home of Heinrich Himmler at Tegernsee, Bavaria, a sterling silver spoon with a fluted edge, 7 in. long, with carefully-engraved SS runes on the handle. The spoon bears the hallmark of Gustav Haegermann, Burgdorf / Hannover on the underside of the handle, along with an '800' purity stamp. Lightly tarnished and used, else very good. Himmler did not have the same ornate, massive collections of silverware as his Nazi partners, preferring small sets according to his modest taste and means. This spoon may have been in his residence for his own use or that of the SS officers accompanying him, or at the officers' quarters of the SS adjacent. The spoon was recovered by American Cpl. Bueford M. Collins attached to the headquarters company of the 143rd Infantry Regiment, 36th U.S. Infantry Division following the capture of the residence. It is accompanied by copies of photographs of Collins and the box with contents (including spoons) he shipped home to his mother while overseas. Also present is a letter of provenance from the seller who obtained the spoon directly from Collins' eldest son in 2016. A fine personal relic.
