Lockwood on U.S. Naval Academy letterhead, 1p. 2pp., Annapolis, Feb. 2, 1861, only two weeks following the secession of Georgia, Lockwood introduces "...Mr. Richard F. Armstrong, who has resigned his warrant as Act. Mid. in the Navy, and leaves the Academy, to return to his native state and share her fortunes. Mr. Armstrong has been thoroughly taught, by me, the Artillery & Infantry drill, and since he has been in the 1st Class, has exercises [sic] the office of cadet Lieut. under my command, with perfect satisfaction. AS he may desire to enter the service of his native state, I ask for him your favorable consideration as Adjt. Genl..." Light uneven toning, light folds, otherwise very good. $100-150
