SAMUEL P. LEE
(1812 - 1897) Union rear admiral and a relative of Robert E. Lee, he commanded various blockading squadrons and was active at Vicksburg. Partly-printed L.S. 1p. 4to., Washington, Aug. 21, 1867, on Navy Department letterhead to naval officer Walter Sargent. The printed text reads, in part: "…Having reported your address as an applicant for admission into the Regular Navy…you are hereby informed that you can present yourself for examination to the President of the Board…". Lee adds: "bring your official papers" and notes and signs at top: "Reported, Washington, Octr. 1/67 10 a.m. Discharged, Examined, Octr. 4/67 - noon. S. P. Lee Commodore and President". Very good condition, with original envelope.
