ROBERT TREAT PAINE
(1731-1841) American jurist, member of the Continental Congress, signer of the Declaration of Independence and first Attorney General of Massachusetts. Partly printed D.S. completed mostly in his hand, 1p. oblong 8vo., Taunton, Mass., July 5, 1765, an order to the sheriff of Bristol County to "...Attach the Goods or Estate of Valentine Wheeler of Rehoboth... the Value of Eighteen Pounds...". Paine adds a lengthy twelve-line set of conditions for the order. His large, bold endorsing signature "Paine" appears on the verso. Margins rough at bottom resulting in minor loss, but not to text, light toning at folds, else very good.
