Description:

SAMUEL OSGOOD (1747 - 1813) American Revolutionary and member of the Continental Congress as well as the first Postmaster General of the U.S. Manuscript L.S. 1p. 4to., Apr. 24, 1778, a circular letter from the Continental Congress to James Ewing, Commissioner to the Loan Office in New Jersey, in part: "...To avoid any accident which may happen in the transmitting Loan Office Certificates to this Office in lieu of those for which Certificates of Specie value are issued, you will be pleased to cancel the original Certificates, before they are forwarded...". Additionally signed by "Walter Livingston" and "Arthur Lee". On very small fold separation repaired with tape on verso, otherwise very good to fine condition.
