ROBERT MORRIS
(1734 - 1806) Signer of the Declaration of Independence, financier and politician. Morris was instrumental in the financing of Washington's armies, and was later ruined through his speculation in western lands. Manuscript L.S. with final two lines and subscription also in Morris' hand, Philadelphia, June 10, 1787 to Messrs. Carey & Tilghman in Baltimore. Morris mentions their charter of the brig Neptune, asking that the vessel be sent to Dieppe and remit the freight to London upon delivery of cargo. Morris also mentions he shall remit to a Mr. Montgomerie $4,000 "by Wednesday's stage" and will regularly make payments to his correspondents. Near fine.
