financier and politician. Morris was instrumental in the financing of Washington's armies, and was later financially ruined through his speculation in western lands. Partly-printed D.S. "Robt. Morris" 1p. oblong 8vo., Philadelphia Sept. 22, 1785, a bill of exchange for 200 pounds sterling addressed to Le Couteulx & Co., Paris and made payable to Tench Tilghman (1741-1786) former aide-de-camp to George Washington and later a business associate with Morris. Light bleed-through from endorsements on verso, small chips at upper right and at center top margin neither affecting text, otherwise very good condition.
