Description:

RICHARD M. NIXON
(1913 - 1994) Thirty-seventh President of the United States who led during the Vietnam War, re-opened diplomatic ties with China and the U.S.S.R., resigned his office due to the Watergate scandal. Fine content T.L.S. as President signed with initials, 1p. 8vo., Washington, Nov. 25, 1970, to Congressman George Murphy, in part: "...I appreciate your vote, ...to sustain my veto of the Political Broadcasting Bill. There is a need for reform in the area of campaign spending, but the vetoed bill was discriminatory, unenforceable and impractical. It would have made the situation worse rather than better...". Signed with his typical encircle initials, with the original transmittal envelope. An ironic letter from Nixon whose re-election campaign in 1972 and resignation from office would set the stage for future campaign reform efforts. Fine.
