Description:

RICHARD M. NIXON
(1913 - 1994) 37th President of the United States, who reopened diplomatic ties with China and the USSR, resigned in 1974 due to the Watergate Scandal. ELVIS AND NIXON TOGETHER AGAIN Fine content D.S., 1p. 4to., [n.p., n.d.], a copy of his 1994 letter praising Egil 'Bud' Krogh's book: 'The Day Elvis Met Nixon'. Krogh had arranged the meeting between the two in the White House, when Nixon presented Presley with a Bureau of Narcotics badge. Nixon writes: 'To Fans of the King...When we met in the Oval Office...I was greatly impressed by Elvis's sincerity as he described his concerns about the negative influences on young people during the turbulent area of the Vietnam War. This account of how the meeting was planned and what was discussed shatters many of the myths that have been spread by the media...' In an attempt at humor, Nixon concludes: 'It remains to be seen, however, whether the author...will be resourceful enough to be able to arrange for Elvis to appear at a book-signing!' Of course, Presley had died of complications of drug use 17 years earlier. Krogh arranged the burglary of the office of Daniel Ellsberg's psychiatrist and was convicted, jailed, and disbarred. Fine condition.
