Description:

RICHARD M. NIXON
(1913 - 1994) Thirty-seventh President of the United States who led during the Vietnam War, re-opened diplomatic ties with China and the U.S.S.R., resigned his office due to the Watergate scandal. Fine political content T.L.S. "Dick" on his letterhead, 1p. 4to., [n.p.], Aug. 23, 1961 to Edmund S. Whitman. While planning his candidacy for the presidency, Nixon sets forth one of his battle plans, in part: "...I have been trying to aim my attacks at Kennedy's advisors rather than at him personally. Your letter suggested a new way to get at this group subtly and effectively. I also particularly liked your suggestion that I use the analogy of applying for an Operator's License [by running for President] and asking Americans to engage in some self- examination as far as their own fitness as citizens is concerned, This is the kind of down-to-earth example which gets a message through to the man in the street...". Light paperclip stain at top, else very good. Of course, Nixon would lose in his race against Kennedy a little more than a year later. Nicely matted and framed with two photos and brass plaque.
