precursor of the machine gun, the Gatling gun. His invention was used with great effect during the Civil War, and in some forms is still in use today. Scarce, boldly penned A.L.S. 1p. 4to. on Gatling Gun Co. letterhead, Hartford, May 21, 1881, in part: "...I will say, your former letter unfortunately got mislaid. I now cheerfully comply with your request...". Folds, trimmed a bit at top, overall very good.
