Description:

696. REVOLUTIONARY WAR QUARTERMASTER RECEIPTS A good group of thirteen manuscript documents, 1p. ea. mostly oblong 8vo., [various places], 1775-1783 being receipts for supplies delivered by or to quartermaster Nicholas Quackenbush, (1734-1813). The documents concern a variety of necessary supplies for the successful prosecution of the war including boards of a variety of sizes including 1 inch, 1 1/2 inch as well as "two Inch Plank..." as well as firewood. When things became especially desperate Quackenbush would donate his own resources: A receipt dated Fish Kill, Aug. 3, 1779 certifies that he had "got a Large Sorrel horse Mark'd A (in Lew [sic] of one taken from him, of his own Property) for public Service..." Other receipts concern monies paid to various individuals with some specific references to loans from France. Signatories include GEORGE TRIMBLE, JOHN BANCKER, NICHOLAS QUACKENBUSH, and others. Some fold separations, marginal losses, some signatures removed for cancellation purposes, otherwise very good. $100-150
