Description:

408. REGIMENTAL MUTINY LETTER ON RISQUE UNION LETTERHEAD A great Union soldier's, 4pp. 8vo., letter written on a rather risquéÈ multi-colored patriotic stationery depicting a well-dressed young woman lifting her skirt to cross a puddle while an officer fails to get a group of obviously distracted soldiers' attention. The caption reads, in full: "Officer-FRONT FACE! EYES RIGHT!!! Why in th__thunder don't you turn your faces to the front?" Content includes a good war-date letter, written by Pvt. Silas W. Baxter, Co. C, 11th New York (Scott's 900) Cavalry concerning an "indignation meeting", reading, in part: "...we have to sleep on the ground...there was 149 of the...wounded soldiers from Roanoke Island landed...I saw some of them up on deck...we had what the officers call an indignation meeting on the 19th...every man refused to do any more duty till we got better rations and the promise of our pay...our Lieutenant Colonel came...and said he would do all he could for us and we have had all we could eat since...I have been on guard for the last 24 hours...". Light soiling, else very good. $150-200
